Espresso Type

Espresso Type

Espresso is divided into two types, namely pure and mixed. What is the complete explanation like? Check it out below.

Pure Espresso

This pure espresso is a pure drink with the composition of espresso without any other mixtures that change the taste.

Espresso shots

Espresso shot is the term for the unit of espresso that is commonly used. For the composition, 25-35 ml of one shot of espresso is used, while double shot (doppio) is around 45-60 ml.

The difference is that the espresso shot is used as a standard base for other drinks. Meanwhile, triple shot is to accommodate if the desired coffee volume is larger. The methods used to make this espresso shot include;

Heat boiling water until the steam passes through dense lumps of 7-8 grams of very finely ground coffee powder.
Within 20-30 seconds it will produce strong coffee. This method is done similarly to a double shot with twice the amount of coffee powder. A good espresso shot will produce dark colored crema and lots of foam.

Ristretto

This Ristretto consists of 1 dose of coffee to make espresso, then brewed with only half the dose of water. The result is a thick liquid with a volume of 15-20ml with a richer taste. Double ristretto shots with a volume of 30-45ml are also commonly used as a base for coffee drinks.

Lungo

In contrast to ristretto, lungo brews 1 dose of coffee with 2 doses of water. The result is a Lungo drink with more volume but a lighter flavor concentration. Lungo is often compared to Americano because it is almost the same in terms of volume.

Blended Espresso

Mixed espresso means this espresso drink is mixed with other complementary ingredients. Anything?

Americano

The first example of a blended espresso is Americano. Americano is a double shot of espresso mixed with hot water in a ratio of 1:3 – 1:4. Another variation of this drink is the Long Black where hot water is poured into the glass first so it doesn’t damage the crema of the espresso which is poured at the end.

Café Macchiato

The word macchiato itself comes from the word marked which means “to stain” the black of the espresso with the white of the milk. The second type of drink is the Café macchiato which is made from espresso (single or double shot). This drink is then topped with a little foam from steamed milk.

Cappuccino

Another type of espresso is cappuccino. This cappuccino is made from 1 part espresso mixed with 1 part steamed milk and 1 part milk foam. This cappuccino drink has a soft texture with a strong coffee taste. Some variations of this cappuccino use cocoa powder, cinnamon or palm sugar as sprinkles on top of the thick milk foam.

Café Latte

The café latte dish is made from espresso mixed with steamed milk. The ratio of milk in a cafe latte is more than the milk foam. Because the taste of milk in this cafe latte is the most dominant compared to cappuccino or macchiato. Other variations of this drink are the Piccolo Latte which is made from a single shot of ristretto, or the Magic Latte which is made from a double shot of ristretto.

Caffe Affogato

Have you ever heard the term Caffè affogato before? Caffè affogato is espresso with ice cream instead of milk. In Italian it means drowning. The meaning is that the melted ice cream in the affogato is like being drowned by the warmth of the espresso.

Caffe Mocha

Another type of blended espresso is Caffè mocha. This dish combines coffee, milk and chocolate in the right combination. Currently in Caffè mocha, the amount of powdered chocolate is more than liquid chocolate or milk chocolate because it is more practical.
